Projections

 

A man lost his axe and suspected that his neighbor's son had stolen it. He watched the youth closely and his suspicion brewed increasingly. "Doesn't he walk the way a thief does? And his appearance, manner, the language he uses, all are a robber's."

Un homme perdit sa hache et suspecta le fils de son voisin de la lui avoir volée . Il regardait le jeune empreint de suspicion et se montait de plus en plus le bourricot " N'avait-il pas la démarche d'un voleur ? et son apparence , ses manières , sa façon de parler ? Toutes étaient celles d'un voleur ".

But a few days later the axe was found in the valley where he had worked with it. Obviously it was his carelessness that had made him lose the axe. "So I have blamed the young man wrongly, " he thought. 

Quelques jours plus tard la hache fut retrouvée dans la vallée, là même où il l'avait utilisée . De toute évidence c'était à cause de sa propre inattention qu'i avait perdu sa hache . "Ainsi j'ai injustement blâmé ce jeune homme" se disait-il.

Now when he met his neighbor's son, things looked different. The youth by no means looked like a thief: his walk, his looks, his behavior and talk were all innocent.

Désormais quand il rencontrait le fils du voisin , les choses lui semblaient différentes . Le jeune homme n'avait en rien l'air d'un voleur : sa démarche , son allure , son comportement , son discours étaient tous innocents.
