La mule

This is a parable told of a farmer who owned an old mule. One day the mule fell into the farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule braying and found him at the bottom of the well.

C'est l'histoire d'un fermier qui possédait une vieille mule . Un jour la mule tomba dans le puits du fermier. Le fermier entendit braire la mule et la trouva au fond du puits.

  

After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbors together, told them what had happened, and enlisted them to help him to haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

Ayant examiné de près la situation le fermier sympathisa avec la mule mais décida que ni la mule ni le puits ne valaient d'être préservés. Alors il rassembla ses voisins, leur expliqua ce qui était arrivé et les enrôla pour l'aider a jeter de la terre dans le puits afin d'y enterrer la vieille mule et  de la sortir ainsi de son malheur.
 

Initially the old mule was hysterical, but as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck the mule. It suddenly dawned on him that each time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back he would shake it off and step up.
Au départ la vieille mule était hystérique mais comme le fermiers et ses voisins continuaient à lui balancer sur le dos des pelletées de terre lui vint une idée . Elle prit la décision qu'à chaque fois qu'une pelleté de terre lui tomberait dessus elle la secouerait et se tiendrait dessus.

This he did time after time.  Shake it off and step up, shake it off and step up, shake it off and step up. He repeated this thought to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows on his back from the dirt, or how distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought the urge to panic, and just kept right on shaking off the dirt and stepping up. 
Et c'est ce qu'elle fit , fois après fois. Secoue la terre et monte dessus, secoue la terre et monte dessus, secoue la terre et monte dessus ; c'et ce qu'elle se répétait en guise d'encouragement. Quelle que soit la douleur générée par la terre qui lui tombait sur le dos et aussi stressante que puisse paraître la situation la vieille mule combattit l'envie de paniquer et continua seulement à secouer la terre et à monter dessus.

It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well! What seemed like it would bury him actually helped him, all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity. 
Ca ne prit pas longtemps à la vieille mule, fourbue et  épuisée de passer triomphalement la margelle de ce puits; Ce qui devait de toute évidence l'ensevelir l'aida au contraire dû à sa façon de traîter l'adversité.
