Le Mahatma et les quatres voleurs

The Four Thieves

Once four businessmen set out on a trip carrying firearms for protection. The met a mahatma along the way, who warned them not to go that way as it was dangerous. They did not listen to him and said they were well-equipped to face any danger. As they went further, they found a bar of gold lying on the ground. Rejoicing at their find, thy wrapped it up in a piece of cloth with the idea of dividing it among themselves.

Il était une fois 4 hommes d'affaires qui partirent en voyage armés de pistolets pour se sentir protégés . Sur la route ils croisèrent un Mahatma qui les pria d'abandonner leurs armes tant elles lui paraissaient dangereuses. Ils ne voulurent pas l'écouter et répondirent qu'ils s'étaient équipés pour faire face à tout danger . En chemin ils trouvèrent un lingot d'or sur le sol. Trop heureux de leur trouvaille ils l'enveloppèrent dans un linge avec l'idée de se le partager.

As night fell, two of them went to a neighboring village to buy some food, while two stayed behind. When they had gone, those who stayed behind felt tempted to keep the bar for themselves and conspired to shoot the other two when they returned with the food.

A la nuit tombée deux d'entre eux s'en allèrent au village voisin  pour acheter de la nourriture laissant les deux autres derrière . Ces derniers avaient envie de se partager le magot en deux et décidèrent de tirer sur les deux autres dès qu'ils reviendraient . 

The two who had gone to the village had a hearty meal at a cafe ; while returning with the food for the other two, they also succumbed to the temptation of keeping the bar for themselves and plotted to do away with their friends. Therefore they mixed poison with the food they were taking back to them.

Les deux autres après avoir fait les courses et mangé un repas consistant dans un café reprirent la route et succombèrent aussi à la tentation de garder le magot pour eux deux et  décidèrent de se débarrasser de leurs amis . Aussi empoisonnèrent-ils le dîner qu'ils  leur rapportaient .

When they returned with the food, the other two shot them dead. They were hungry, so they at once devoured the food brought for them. They fell asleep never to wake again!

Quand ils revinrent avec les provisions les deux autres les tuèrent d'un coup de pistolet . Puis comme ils avaient faim  se mirent à dévorer sur le champ la nourriture rapportée . Ils s'endormirent pour ne jamais se réveiller.

Next morning the same mahatma passed by on his way to the river for his daily bath. He found the four lying dead, and the bar of gold wrapped in a cloth. He threw the gold into the river so that it might not do further mischief.

Le lendemain matin le même Mahatma passa par là pour aller prendre son bain quotidien . Ils trouva les quatre morts et le lingot d'or enveloppé d'un linge . Lingot qu'il jeta dans la rivière afin qu'il ne puisse pas faire plus de dégâts
